Week 4 Assignment

2D Action RPG

For my 2D game i wanted to do a basic make over of the town and environments to make it have a some what more of an interesting layout so I added street lights around the town to make it feel darker, I gave the main character armor to make him look more like someone who is equipped to take on dangerous enemies. Finally i wanted to add higher resolution textures to the game to make it feel more like an old SNES game rather than an NES title.

My textures where really hard to do and they took a long time to sprite out, i even had to ask a friend of mine to help me figure out how to make the character appear to be walking. I honestly feel that the textures that I changed bring the game up to a whole different level, but due to how long it took to do each one, I was unable to change everything. The boss monster especially was really difficult to do, i did very little to actually make it but it did tweak some thing here and there with it. A little later on in the development my friend told me to use old games that were already out and that i just copy where all the pixels were on each character to speed up the process. Yet it didn't because i had to play each game and move the emulator frame by frame to get the exact look of each character moving and still and place it into Fireworks.

I would have liked to have seen more complicated actions in the game but i really lacked the skill to code and create the game myself, if i only knew how to code i could have done most of the work myself instead of relying on other people. But from what i did with my level of skill, I'm very happy with it, ya the boss could be tougher and the maps could be larger but I wanted it to look better, more so than adding lots of rooms and areas that don't really change when you go from area to area. As I've learned in the past I can only get better with each project and this was my first actual functioning game and it came out close to like i would had hoped, but my expectations weren't for a AAA title game here.
